Sure, you can mod the crap out of Sim City to "modernize" it, but you can do the same for Cities XL. ![]() It has great gameplay value, but Cities XL Platinum is the next evolution. I love SimCity 4, but compared to Cities XL Platinum, it seems pretty limited and archaic. I haven't played it, but all the reviews I read say they did a piss poor job of it. Simcity 5 (or whatever they called it) tried to shamelessly steal the Cities XL Mechanic of "city by city" trade and interaction. SimCity 4 has had a place in my heart for a long time, but to me, there's really one thing you have to keep in mind that says it all. SimCity has more intuitive traffic calculations, less memory leaks (they both have some failcode, but Cities XL's was more noticeable, especially at launch.) Also, CimCity 4 RushHour has the driving quests, which is a unique and fancy feature that gives you a new way to explore your city and stay interested after a few dozen hours in the same plot of land / city. The Omnicorp / intercity trading is pretty sophisticated compared to SimCity 4 where you can only trade with your neighbouring cities rather than the city down the continent. It's got the "MegaStructures" aspect which is pretty cool. ![]() Cities XL has a lot going for it that Sim City does not. I'd say it's an Apples and Pears comparison.
